Review of Nae Pasaran Film Screening – February 2019

Maya Evans, Local Councillor, Peace Activist with Voices for Creative Non-Violence and Buddy with the Hastings & Rother Refugee Buddy Project

Brilliant screening of Nae Pasaran – solidarity by Scottish engineers in the late 1970s who refused to service Hawker Hunters being sent to brutal Chilean coup – an excellent Q&A with the film maker Felipe Bustos Sierra.

Cllr Peter Chowney (Leader of Hastings Borough Council) spoke about the Hastings Syrian Resettlement Programme, how we’re taking 100 Syrians (more than any other town in the UK) and we’re willing to take more!

Antonia Berelson (Local Councillor, Buddy with the Hastings & Rother Refugee Buddy Project and Steering Group Member of Hastings Community of Sanctuary) talked about her experience of being a Buddy and nursing a refugee family.

The incredible Rossana Leal (Founder of Hastings & Rother Refugee Buddy Project) shared her own experience of being a Chilean refugee who was settled in Scotland, plus the amazing Buddy project.

Simon Fuller (Lead Officer for the SRP in East Sussex) covered how the Syrian refugees are rehoused – the whole event held together by Dr Felicity Laurence (Chair of Hastings Community of Sanctuary).
